| JWallpapers v2.0 release pushed back |
| Wednesday, 14 April 2010 14:28 |
![]() The date of the next major JWallpapers release is pushed back to the end of next month. Additionally to the features presented on my last v2.0 communicate, I have been performing a lot of core enhancements. I have also included watermarking for both thumbs and downloads, each of one can be turned off independently. Right now I'm working on the new resizing engine which will allow to set resolutions in a global, per category and per picture basis. I decided to eliminate the asynchronous resizing mode since it complicates things while using this new scheme I'm working on. Resizes will always be handled in a synchronous way, i.e. generated on the fly the first time they are requested and then cached in the filesystem. I believe that this won't represent a problem for the great majority. Nonetheless, a PHP-CLI script for generating all the thumbnails and resizes at once might provided in the future for expert users. |

Hello Manuel,
Almost there :) !. I'm on final test / minor improvements phase. I was hoping to release it tomorrow but I've found a problematic query (ACL related) used on multiple files. I just fixed the problem but I'll have to re-test that part once more.
If everything goes well from now on, the new version should be released before the end of this week, but I can't promise you anything. This release is huge and therefore should be carefully tested.
Regards,
Arunas
Image preloading is already available for the slideshow part (the next & previous images are always preloaded). I have to think about the possibility of pre-caching thumbs while browsing the gallery, but this will certainly not be available on v2.0. I'm on test / final adjustment phase. The release should take place at the end of the week.
The absence of thumbs in the search results is actually a Joomla limitation. The search plugin removes all the HTML code inserted by the JWallpapers search plugin.
Thanks again.

Hello there,
Thanks !.
* Bulk upload (kind of) will be available on v2.0. Your users will be able to upload up to 5 pictures at once in the same category.
* Tagging, tag search and a tag module will make their appearance on v2.0.
Arunas
- image preloading in background for fast browsing
- thumbnail-display in search-results
Thanks!
JWallpaper looks very nice!
Will the next release have these features?
- bulk upload for frontend. It is quite boring when a user wants to create a whole gallery (of his vacation)
- picture ordering by drag-and-drop (a vacancy-album only makes sense when images are ordered by the user)
- tags and tag-search/ tag-module
Thanks for this great piece of work!
Hello there,
A JomSocial plugin is planned for development. It should be available for the last quarter of this year.
Thank you for your comments !.
I've just found this component and really, really like the fact users would be able to submit a picture from within a given directory. I don't believe any other joomla gallery has covered this and it is precisely what I'm looking for. However, I'm using JomSocial (as opposed to CB) for my website. Are you planning to provide JS integration any time soon? Thank you!
