JWallpapers is a lightweight yet powerful image gallery component with community building capabilities. If you want to create a community site where images are the main theme around it, i.e. a wallpapers website, or just looking for a reliable, fast and easy to use image gallery, then JWallpapers is made for you.

Key features
- Easy and intuitive interface in both frontend and backend environments.
- Both frontend and backend secure image upload forms available.
- JWallpapers is capable of generating and handling resizes (synchronously and asynchronously) for each picture in your gallery: A lot of efforts have been deployed in order to provide a reliable and fully customizable resize engine.
- Fully customizable thumbnails: Change their width and height as well as the resize method (maintain aspect, disregard aspect and crop).
- High performance (AJAX driven slimbox) lightbox slideshow feature, capable of displaying slideshows for categories with thousands of pictures.
- Two different display modes: Classic (pictures and categories shown as thumbs inside their parents) and JWallpapers (showing pictures of the current node and their children).
- Download protection.
- Customizable Search Engine Friendly (SEF) URL's (through Joomla native SEF engine).
- Customizable metatags (keywords and description) for both pictures and categories to improve your search engine visibility.
- AJAX navigation system: A powerful tool that will allow you to walk through your category tree to chose or create a new category.
- Integrated AJAX voting system.
- Comment system (through JComments/JomComment): JWallpapers uses the powerful JComments/JomComment API in order to provide a slick integrated AJAX comment system.
- Community Builder Integration: Links to CB user profiles, up to 2 CB fields can be shown on pictures (if the uploading user is also the author of the image) and a CB Picture tab with all the pictures uploaded by a given user.
- Image processing handled by either GD or Imagick.
- Resolution filter: You can create a list of the admissible size formats that will act like a filter when pictures are uploaded (filtered images are disregarded).
- Unlike the great majority of image galleries, JWallpapers is able to function with mootools 1.2 (a minimal code change is required).
Layout design
- Simple but professional style guaranteed to look great on any template without changes of any kind.
- Fluid and fully adjustable frontend displays: You can change the number of thumbnails (rows and lines) to be displayed as well as define the size of each JWallpapers display zone.
- CSS code validated by the W3C CSS validation service. Tested on Firefox 3, Safari (3 and 4) and IE (6, 7 and 8).
Resizing capabilities
- Resizes for both thumbnails and pictures resizes can be handled synchronously (generated on the fly when thumbnails or pictures are first requested in the frontend) or asynchronously (in the background and upon the webmaster/administrator request). For both methods, resizes are cached (stored in the filesystem) after they are generated. The synchronous method do not require the PHP CLI binary to be present on your system.
- When resizes are generated in the background (asynchronously) the admin is able to perform other tasks and visualize the status of the resizing process in the backend.
- Resize formats can be defined for each image size format (4:3, 16:10, 5:4 or other).
Image uploads
- Bulk uploads (from zip files) as well as local uploads (directly from server) can be made in the backend.
- Frontend users can propose new categories when uploading their pictures. This feature can also be turned off.
- Frontend uploads moderation available for new categories and/or pictures.
- PHP-CLI (Command Line Interpreter) Mass Uploader script, that imports to your JWallpapers gallery, a previously uploaded (via FTP for example) directory structure (category tree) containing pictures.
Languages
- English and Spanish for both backend and frontend interfaces.
Available extensions
- The best rated and newest pictures modules are a convenient way for displaying pictures in pages like your home page.
- The JWallpapers search plugin will allow you to use Joomla's native search engine in order to look out for pictures with a given title or description.
- The JWallpapers Pictures content plugin will allow you to insert JWallpapers pictures in your Joomla articles. A click on any picture starts a lightbox sequence or takes you directly to that picture in your JWallpapers gallery.
- The Xmap plugin generates html and xml site-maps which may include your JWallpapers pictures and categories.
- sh404SEF support.
- Community Builder JWallpapers Pictures Tab.
Requirements
In order to run JWallpapers you'll need a Unix/Linux * webserver with:
- Joomla 1.5 or better
- Apache 1.3 or better
- PHP 5.0 or better with PHP CLI (Command Line Interpreter) support ** (Optional)
- MySQL 5.0 or better
- GD2 or Imagick ***
- Mootools 1.1 or 1.2 ****
* The JWallpapers asynchronous resizing method engine (used to provide multiple size formats and thumbs generation in the backgound) is only available, at the moment, for Unix/Linux webservers. I'm currently studying the necessary adjustments to provide this feature on Windows AMP (Apache/PHP/MySQL powered) servers as well. JWallpapers is fully functional on Windows AMP severs while using the synchronous resizing "on the fly" method. However, JWallpapers is and will only be officially supported on Unix/Linux webservers.
** PHP CLI is a binary that allows the execution of PHP scripts from the command line. It is by default generated by the PHP installation process. PHP CLI support is not required for the synchronous resizing method, i.e. JWallpapers is fully functional, even if the PHP CLI binary is not present on your system, when using the synchronous resizing method.
*** These are the image processing libraries used to generate thumbnails and resizes. Only one of any of those two is necessary. GD is distributed with PHP.
**** JWallpapers is only complaiant with mootools 1.1 out of the box. Compatibility with mootools 1.2 is possible by performing some minor code changes. A detailed article in the Knowledge Base that explains the whole procedure. Using another JavaScript framework (JQuery, Prototype, etc.) along with JWallpapers is not recommended. Even though workarounds exist (jQuery.noConflict() is an example) in order to make mootools coexists with other frameworks, it's up to the client to resolve JS conflicts generated by other scripts on such cases. Support will be limited on this matter but we'll try our best on resolving any issue you might encounter.
